My 8-year-old has always been hesitant to read, but since joining reading club, he's become genuinely excited about it.
The improvement has been noticeable — even his teacher has commented on how much more confident and capable he's become.
He looks forward to every session and thrives under Sarah's gentle guidance and encouragement.
My child has found out about some great books and enjoyed some giggles with other kids online and learned to express his opinions about what he's reading.
These small-group online reading sessions meet children exactly where they are — whether they already love books or are still finding their way into reading.
Every session is calm, inclusive, and focused on one thing: helping your child enjoy reading.
Children read high-interest books together and take part in relaxed, guided discussions about characters, events, and ideas. There is no pressure to participate in a particular way.
Students can read aloud, listen and follow along, share their thoughts in the chat, or simply be present. All are welcomed.
Sessions run live via Zoom — from the comfort of home.
Hi, I'm Sarah Hodgson — a qualified teacher librarian with a Bachelor of Education (Hons), Master of Education, and Master of Education (Teacher Librarianship).
I've spent years supporting children of all abilities to discover that reading can be enjoyable, engaging, and confidence-building. I personally read and select every book used in these groups and draw on proven classroom strategies to ensure every child feels included.
My goal is simple: to help your child fall in love with reading.
"It is a lovely opportunity to enjoy books and reading with Sarah who is very encouraging and thoughtful in the way that she prompts the kids to engage with the story and share their reflections as they go. There is no pressure to read out loud. Listening and following along is also ok."
Reading Club groups are designed to support children at different stages of their reading journey in a calm, engaging, and inclusive environment.
Groups are matched by age and reading stage to help students feel comfortable, connected, and confident.

Families are welcome to begin with confidence. If after the first session you feel the group is not the right fit for your child, simply let me know and you will not be charged for the remainder of the term.
From the second session onward, enrolment is considered a commitment for the remainder of the term, as places are limited and your child’s position in the group is reserved.
We're so happy we found Sarah and she's been instrumental in helping our son develop a real love for reading.
Sarah has such a wonderful way of weaving discussion into the reading in a gentle, inclusive way.
Both of my girls felt comfortable reading aloud and joining in, which made the experience so much richer.
It turned reading into something social, thoughtful, and fun-so much more engaging than reading alone.
My Son gets so excited to log on and independently read with a group, discussing the parts of what they have have read and sharing his thoughts brings him great joy.
I enjoy doing book club with you. It's really fun.
The main aim of Reading Club is to help children develop a genuine love of reading.

Yes — each child will need access to the book being read in their group.
Most families choose a physical copy, though eBooks are also welcome.
No. Students read the book together during sessions and discover the story as a group along the way. They may have a chapter or so to read between sessions.
Not at all.
Children can participate in the way that feels most comfortable for them — reading aloud, listening, sharing ideas verbally, using the chat, or simply following along.
There is no pressure to participate in a particular way.
Yes. Many children join Reading Club because they need a calmer, more supportive way to engage with books.
The focus is on helping children feel comfortable, connected, and confident around reading.
Reading Club is designed to build a love of reading through shared stories and discussion.
While children naturally strengthen comprehension, vocabulary, confidence, and communication skills during sessions, the primary focus is enjoyment and connection — not formal tutoring or test preparation.
Groups are intentionally kept small, with a maximum of 10 students per session.
This helps create a calm, inclusive environment where every child feels seen and supported.
Groups are organised by broad stages of schooling rather than strict age ranges.
Lower Primary — usually Years 1–2
Middle Primary — usually Years 3–4
Upper Primary — usually Years 5–6
High School — usually Years 7–9
These year levels are intended as a guide only. Some children may feel more comfortable, confident, or engaged in a different group depending on their reading stage, interests, or confidence levels.
All sessions are held live online via Zoom.
Families will receive the Zoom link and session information before the term begins.
Absolutely. Families join Reading Club from across Australia.
Session times are listed in Queensland time (AEST).
Yes — siblings are very welcome if the group is suitable for both children.
As places are limited, each child requires their own enrolment.
Reading Club is designed to be inclusive and supportive of diverse learners.
I am an experienced teacher and teacher librarian who has worked with children of varying abilities, learning needs, and confidence levels across a range of educational settings.
If your child has additional needs such as ADHD, dyslexia, autism, anxiety, or other learning differences, please include this information during registration so I can best support them during sessions.
That’s not a problem at all.
I keep track of the group’s reading progress so families can easily catch up before the next session.
If I am ever unable to run a session, families will be notified as soon as possible.
Where appropriate, a qualified relief teacher may take the session. If this is not possible, a make-up session, credit, or refund will be provided.
