Reading Club

For every reader. The reluctant, the voracious, and every kind of reader in between.

Live, small-group online reading sessions for kids in Years 1–9. Run by a Teacher Librarian who’s spent over a decade watching kids fall in love with books — and knows exactly how to help yours.

You might be the parent of…

…the 10-year-old who’s stopped picking up a book.

Or the parent of the 12-year-old who reads three books in a weekend and there’s nothing left at home by Monday.

Or the parent of the 8-year-old who reads beautifully aloud but can’t tell you a single thing about what just happened in the story.

Or the homeschool parent of a voracious reader who has no one to talk about books with.

Or the parent of the 9-year-old who’s been told he’s “behind” — and is starting to believe it.

Reading Club is built for all of them. Different stages, different challenges, same thing underneath: a kid who deserves to find what reading can be.

What parents are saying

Artboard 1

My 8-year-old has always been hesitant to read. Since joining Reading Club he’s become genuinely excited about it. Even his teacher has commented on how much more confident and capable he’s become.

Artboard 1

My son gets so excited to log on and independently read with a group. Discussing what they’ve read and sharing his thoughts brings him great joy.

Artboard 1

My child has found out about some great books and enjoyed some giggles with other kids online and learned to express his opinions about what he's reading.

What this actually is

Small live Zoom groups (maximum 10 students) where kids read great books together and talk about them — characters, plot twists, the bits that made them gasp or argue or laugh.

No pressure to participate in any particular way. Your child can read aloud, listen and follow along, jump into the chat, or just be present. All of it counts. All of it builds confidence. All of it builds a reader.

I read and select every book personally. I plan every session. I lead every discussion. Same teacher, same group of book-loving kids, week after week — the kind of consistency that quietly builds a child’s confidence.

What your child gets

  • A genuine love of reading — built through enjoyment, not obligation
  • Confidence, in a space where there’s no wrong way to participate
  • Deeper comprehension and critical thinking through the kind of conversations great books spark
  • Connection with other young readers across Australia

Meet Sarah

Hi — I'm Sarah, a librarian, former classroom teacher, and children's book author.

I've spent over a decade in primary classrooms watching kids fall for books. The look on a Year 4's face when they finally "get" Matilda. The kid who insisted he hated reading until he found the right Andy Griffiths. The Year 6 who started bringing in the next book in the series unprompted.

That's the moment Reading Club is built around — and my whole job is helping more kids get there.

The Groups

Groups are matched by age and reading stage so kids feel comfortable, connected, and confident.

Lower Primary Reading Club — Years 1–2 | 45-minute sessions | $20 per session | $200 per term

Middle Primary Reading Club — Years 3–4 | 1-hour sessions| $30 per session | $300 per term

Upper Primary Reading Club — Years 5–6 | 1-hour sessions | $30 per session | $300 per term

High School Reading Club — Years 7–9 | 1-hour sessions | $30 per session | $300 per term

Groups meet once a week over a 10-week school term. Enrol per term. 10% sibling discount across all tiers.

Flexible placement: year levels are a guide, not a rule. Some kids feel more comfortable in a group above or below their school year depending on reading confidence or interests. We'll work it out together.

Priority enrolment for existing families

Existing families get first pick of next term's groups before enrolments open to new families. Active opt-in only — because every term looks different for every family, and I'd rather ask than assume. At the end of each term I'll send a short message with your booking link, giving you first chance to re-enrol. Re-enrol within that window to keep your child's spot — no assumptions, no auto-renewals. Once it closes, remaining spots open to new families.

Week 1 trial commitment

Reserve your child's spot with a deposit equivalent to one session — $20 for Lower Primary, $30 for everyone else. That secures the place and covers their first session.

The first session is a no-pressure trial. If it's not the right fit, just let me know within 48 hours — no explanation needed.

After that, your child is enrolled for the term, and the balance is paid by weekly direct debit across the remaining sessions.

Full terms are in my Commitment Policy.
